Junee Roundhouse, NSW
The heritage-listed Junee railway station, located on the Main South line in New South Wales,serves the town of Junee in the Junee Shire. Junee is served by two daily NSW TrainLink XPT services in each direction operating between Sydney and Melbourne, and a twice weekly NSW TrainLink Xplorer between Griffith and Sydney split from Canberrra services at Goulburn. The Junee Roundshouse is now a railway museum.

Tenterfield Railway Museum, NSW
The old Tenterfield Railway Station hasn't seen rail traffic for a number of years, but still attracts visitors interested in railway history, now that it is a railway museum. 18km from the NSW/Qld border, the station was the last on the Great Northern Railway before reaching the border and Wallangarra station, which is dissected by it. The museum has an interesting collection of rolling stock and railway memorabilia.

Paterson Rail Motor Museum, NSW
The Rail Motor Society, based at Paterson, New South Wales, is a community owned collection of preserved self-propelled railway vehicles and equipment from the former New South Wales Government Railways. The items in its collection date from 1923 through to 1972. The Society's Depot and Museum is situated in the old Goods Yard adjacent to Paterson Railway Station. This one hectare site is located on the north-western side of the North Coast Railway Line, 213 kilometres north of Sydney and 20 kilometres north of Maitland.

Illawarra Light Rail, NSW
The Illawarra Light Railway Museum operates a mainline 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge light railway, a miniature 7+1⁄4 in (184 mm) gauge railway, and a museum located near Albion Park Rail near Wollongong, south of Sydney. The Museum Society is volunteer operated and was first founded in 1972 and has some local historical railway buildings including the 1915 signal box from Otford (north of Wollongong).

Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre, NSW
Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre, located at the roundhouse at Goulburn, was a significant locomotive depot both steam and diesel and their infancies. After its closure as a mainline depot, the roundhouse and workshops were saved from demolition by the Goulburn Locomotive Roundhouse Preservation Society, and is now a museum railway museum with preserved steam and diesel locomotives as well as many interesting examples of rolling stock.

Sulphide Street Railway and Historical Museum, Broken Hill, NSW
The Sulphide Street Railway and Historical Museum is a history buff's paradise. Enter through the old Silverton Tramway Company station and find yourself in a world of antiques and old trains. The collection of rolling stock includes an 1888 Y class steam locomotive, a class T loco from the early 1900s, a 1951 W class diesel loco, and the very art deco Silver City Comet, which motored between Broken Hill and Parkes from 1937 to 1989.

New South Wales Rail Museum, Thirlmere, NSW
The New South Wales Rail Museum has long been Australia's largest and oldest railway museum with over 125 railway exhibits. It is the home to many diesel and locomotives, including the famous and much-loved 3801. Steam train rides are available on Sundays except where there is a declared total fire ban, when trains are hauled by diesel locomotives. The Museum also operates excursion trains from Sydney to Thirlmere hauled by steam and/or diesel locomotives.

Rail Journeys Museum, Werris Creek, NSW
The small New South Wales town of Werris Creek, near Tamworth and north of Quirindi, is recognised as the first railway town in Australia. For approximately 70 years Werris Creek was the largest railway centre in northern New South Wales, the depot alone employing 800 people. The Australian Railway Monument near the station and part of the station building has been opened as the Rail Journeys Museum. A comprehensive historic display depicts the history of Werris Creek as the first railway town in Australia from the age of steam through to the modern day diesel.
